When food tells the story of a place
At Trasti & Trine in Alta, food, nature, and great experiences have long been an important part of the company’s identity. Here, a meal is about more than taste – it is also about the origin of the ingredients, the people behind them, and the closeness to nature.
This philosophy fits well with Taste the Arctic – Finnmark Edition, a development project that brings together local food producers, chefs, tourism businesses, and cultural actors from across Finnmark.
Trasti & Trine is one of 17 businesses participating in the project. Together, they will explore how local ingredients, food culture, and compelling stories can become an even more important part of the tourism experience in the north.
Together we can create more
Finnmark has great diversity in ingredients, food traditions, and people with knowledge and passion for local food.
But how can we become even better at connecting these resources and making them accessible to visitors?
That is exactly what Taste the Arctic aims to contribute to.
Through collaboration between producers, chefs, accommodation providers, and experience businesses, the project will facilitate new connections and concrete opportunities for cooperation.
For Trasti & Trine, participation provides a forum to share experience, gain inspiration, and help develop culinary tourism in Finnmark.
The ambition is to create experiences where food is not only part of the journey, but also a gateway to understanding the nature, culture, and people who live here.
Inspiration from our neighbors in Finnish Lapland
An important step in the project was the study trip to Inari and Saariselkä in Finnish Lapland on 5–7 October 2026.
Here, more than 20 participants from Finnmark had the chance to meet local producers and tourism operators, experience different food concepts, and learn more about how food, culture, and tourism can be developed in interaction.
The study trip provided a shared arena for exchanging experiences and inspiration, while also giving participants the opportunity to get to know one another better.
Such meetings are important for building relationships and developing new ideas that can later become concrete collaborations.
From local ingredients to holistic experiences
One of the ambitions of Taste the Arctic is to develop new food experiences and thematic itineraries that combine local food, nature, culture, accommodation, and activities.
For guests, this can mean the chance to get to know the people behind the food, discover local traditions, and experience Finnmark through its flavors.
For businesses, it is about finding new ways to collaborate, strengthening the quality of their offerings, and creating greater local value creation.
Trasti & Trine represents an important part of this diversity, with their experience in combining food, hospitality, and nature-based experiences.
A joint effort for Finnmark
Taste the Arctic – Finnmark Edition is owned by Finnmark County Municipality and delivered by NordNorsk Reiseliv.
The project brings together 17 businesses from different parts of the county and builds on efforts to strengthen Finnmark’s food identity and the connection between local food and tourism.
Throughout 2026 and 2027, participants will work on skills development, knowledge sharing, product development, and testing of new concepts.
An important part of the work will also be to showcase the businesses and experiences through photography, film, storytelling, and marketing.
The goal is for more visitors, both from Norway and international markets, to discover the diversity of food experiences Finnmark has to offer.
The taste of Finnmark – a story we create together
What makes Finnmark special is not only the ingredients or the landscape. It is also the people, the knowledge, and the stories that give experiences meaning.
Through Taste the Arctic, Trasti & Trine and the other participants have the opportunity to help develop a stronger shared food identity for Finnmark.
Because when local producers and tourism operators share knowledge, build relationships, and develop experiences together, new opportunities can emerge – for businesses, local communities, and guests alike.
Taste the Arctic is, ultimately, about giving more people the chance to experience Finnmark through the food, the people, and the stories that belong to it.
