March is the month of celebration for dog mushers. This is when some of the world’s longest and most demanding dog races take place – the Iditarod in Alaska and Finnmarksløpet in Alta, Europe’s longest dog race.
Hanna and Trine both have experience from these two major races, and have felt the challenges, excitement, and joy of competing on the international dog sledding stage.
Hanna has competed in the Iditarod twice. In 2022, she was named Rookie of the Year, and in 2026 she finished in an impressive 11th place. Both times she competed with dogs from our kennel.
Trine competed in the Iditarod in 2005. She rented a dog team from the legendary musher Jeff King, and finished the race in mid-pack with many young and promising dogs in the team.
Now all eyes are on Finnmarksløpet 2027. This is the big goal for both Hanna, Trine, and our dogs this winter!
Finnmarksløpet has for many years had three classes:
- Junior – 200 km: For young mushers between 14 and 18 years old, with six dogs in the team.
- 600 km: For mushers over 18 years old, with eight dogs.
- 1100 km: For mushers over 18 years old, with 14 dogs.
Hanna has raced all three classes and has wins in two of them. Trine has experience from both senior classes, and her best placing is an impressive 4th place – an achievement she has accomplished three times!
New in 2027 is a separate 300-kilometer class with eight dogs. It will be exciting to follow the development of this new class.
Finnmarksløpet 2027 will be extra special for us. For the first time, Hanna and Trine will compete in the same race. Both will race Finnmarksløpet 600 km.
We are looking forward to Finnmarksløpet 2027! 🐾
