See our activities
The dogs are the heart of everything we do. We always put their welfare first and want to share the joy of activities with our dogs, the nature and life in the north with our guests.
Where two Arctic experiences meet
The tour begins with you being outfitted with warm clothing and boots, and you will receive an introduction to driving your own dog sled team. After you have put together your own team of dogs, an exciting, fast-paced adventure follows through snow-covered pine forest and along the Alta River. The experience is wonderfully quiet — the only sounds are the soft padding of many paws in the snow and the white steam of the dogs' breath. After a good loop in the Alta Valley you return to the kennel where the dogs are settled back in. Then it’s time to sit around the fire and hear stories about training, races, and what it’s like to live with Alaskan huskies at home.
After this you are ready for your next experience: the hunt for the Northern Lights. The guides from GLØD Explorer are ready to take you out to find the aurora. After a short presentation of the phenomenon, weather forecasts and local knowledge are used to decide where to go that evening. Sometimes it’s a short drive, other times much longer. The guides at GLØD won’t give up just because it’s cloudy in Alta — they may drive up to 100 km one way if that’s where the chances of seeing this amazing phenomenon are greatest! There is no Northern Lights guarantee, but we always do our best to maximize your chances of experiencing this magical spectacle.
