About rooms and the cabin

Welcome to characteristic rooms with a high standard, whether in the guesthouse or in our cabins. Here you stay close to nature, the animals and everyday life on the farm. Wake up to the smell of freshly brewed coffee, sounds from the kitchen or happy dogs in the kennel. At Trasti & Trine you will find calm, authentic experiences and a warm atmosphere way up north.

A home in the forest

Trasti & Trine grew out of a simple idea: to live closer to nature and create a place where people, animals and experiences can meet. What began with a few buildings and dog yards at the forest edge has gradually become a lively place with activities year-round.

Today the courtyard is a home for those of us who work here, our Alaskan huskies and guests from around the world. You stay in the middle of our everyday life, with dog life, farm atmosphere and nature right outside the door. The experiences vary with the seasons, from speed and activity out in the terrain to quiet evenings in the stillness of the forest.

On the courtyard you'll find five cabins, in addition to two rooms above the kitchen in the guesthouse, all with private bathrooms and thoughtful solutions for a comfortable stay close to farm life.
Kjøkkenhagen, Gaisa, Alaska and Elva each consist of two separate units spread across two cabins, while Radderud is its own standalone cabin.

In our boutique lodges you stay in the forest, have treetop views and the feeling of sleeping outdoors! The cabins are cozy and unique, with two floors and views of the surrounding nature.

In our guesthouse food, community and experiences come together under one roof. On the second floor you'll find two spacious guest rooms where you can retreat to calm and comfortable surroundings after a day of activities on the courtyard.

In the middle of the courtyard, right by the dog yard, you'll find a charming building in traditional Norwegian cabin style, surrounded by life and nature. Here you stay simply and homely with a wood stove, warm materials and proximity to everything that happens on the farm, a placefor calm, community and authentic farm life.

There are two ways to experience the sauna: private or as a shared experience.

Sauna

Find peace again at Trasti & Trine. In our wood-fired sauna, warmth, nature and silence come together in an experience that offers room for rest, presence and renewed energy.

The sauna is an important part of Nordic culture — a place for calm, community and recovery, where heat and cold meet and the body can rest. Traditionally the sauna has been used as a breath of fresh air from everyday life, a place for conversations, silence and renewed energy, closely connected to nature and the seasons.

At Trasti & Trine the sauna experience can be added as an add-on to your booking, an easy way to give your stay a little extra warmth and wellbeing.

Alaska Bar

Trasti & Trine's Alaska Bar is an atmospheric gathering place filled with vinyl, stories and warm surroundings. Inspired by life in Alaska and the Arctic sled-dog tradition, this is the place for good conversations, music and calm evenings in the forest of Alta.

Kick off your arrival day in our Alaska Bar at Trasti & Trine. Here you'll find over 200 LPs to play on the turntable — choose the music that will fill the evening and the forest around you. In winter you can watch dog teams rush by outside, while summer brings long, light evenings and a peaceful atmosphere in the courtyard.

The building is more than good music and a pleasant atmosphere. Historically, it is one of the first buildings erected after the Second World War, preserved for future generations. The interior is inspired by life in Alaska, created to bring the spirit of Alaska closer to us here in Alta.

During the Finnmark Race and the Iditarod we stream the races live in the bar, a gathering spot for guests, mushers and great stories.

Alaska Bar opening hours

FRIDAY: 17:00–23:00
SATURDAY: 17:00–23:00

The bar can also be opened on other days by request. Feel free to contact us at booking@trastiogtrine.no or call us at +47 784 03 040

Looking for this?

Lunch with foraging

The seasons in Finnmark are intense and full of flavor. When summer finally arrives, nature comes alive around the clock. Wild salmon migrate up the Alta River, rhubarb grows in the garden and birch sap is tapped directly from the trees. In the forest we find edible plants such as ostrich fern and sorrel. Today's lunch is waiting out in nature — will you join us?

Pack-hike with dog

We are lucky to have fantastic nature right outside our kennel. And it's beautiful year-round. The smell of warm forest floor and tempting clear river water on a fine summer day. A fire and hot coffee on a grey, chilly day. Crackling autumn colours, sharp air and red-on-red across the lingonberry heather. Come along for a trip!
